Since the beginning of the Río Puerto Nuevo Flood Damage Reduction Project, USACE has sought the feedback of other federal, Commonwealth, or local agencies, scientists and academics, and community members. By listening to the comments, concerns, and requests voiced by these stakeholders, USACE is shaping the project to fit the needs of those who live, work, and play in the Río Piedras watershed.
Since receiving the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 funding, dozens of meetings, focus groups, and public forums have occurred. Feedback from these engagements has resulted in implementable changes to project designs such as the shift from designing concrete channel bottoms to those built with natural materials. Future engagements will allow for community members to provide feedback on what kinds of recreational benefits would be most impactful for their neighborhoods.
As the project progresses, stakeholder meetings will be held to provide updates on design progress and construction impacts. During these meetings, USACE will address questions and concerns and provide as much detail as possible regarding what kinds of impacts are expected during each phase. Advance notice of these meetings will be mailed to impacted communities and announcements will be posted on this website.
If you would like to send an email with your feedback, questions, or concerns, please use the form below. USACE will respond within two-business days of receiving your email.
