Steve LaValle currently serves as the Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Caribbean District, where he is responsible for a broad range of leadership, coordination, and strategic duties in support of the district’s mission.

Headquartered in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean District delivers a multi-billion-dollar civil works program and provides oversight for military construction projects, navigation initiatives, regulatory permits, emergency response efforts, and interagency and international services throughout the Caribbean region.

Mr. LaValle has served in the Federal Civil Service since October of 2018. He previously served for more than 25 years in the U.S. Army, working in positions at the platoon, company, battalion, brigade, and division level in the Army’s 10th Mountain and 101st Airborne Divisions.

He deployed on multiple operational tours to Afghanistan and Iraq and has served strategic tours on the Army Staff and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). He is a certified Strategic Planner, Combat Advisor, and Military Mountaineer.

Mr. LaValle’s military awards and decorations include: The Bronze Star (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC); Joint Service Commendation Medal; The OSD, Army Staff, Airborne, Air Assault, and Pathfinder badges; Ranger and Sapper Tabs.

Mr. LaValle is a native of Boston, Massachusetts and has attended Drury University (B.S. Biology); the University of Missouri (M.S. Engineering Management); the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; Georgetown University (MPA/MPM Public Administration and Policy Management) and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
