Fort Buchanan breaks ground on AST barracks
The Governor of Puerto Rico (center in pink) joins leaders from Fort Buchanan, the U.S. Army Reserve, the Puerto Rico National Guard, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Caribbean District, to break ground on the new $22.27 million Advanced Skills Training Barracks on Fort Buchanan. The 30,000‑square‑foot facility will provide modern, on‑installation lodging for Soldiers attending short‑term institutional training, eliminating the need for trainees to stay nearly 50 miles off‑post. Once complete, the barracks will enhance Fort Buchanan’s ability to support mission‑focused education and leadership development, strengthening the installation’s role as the Army’s strategic hub in the Caribbean.
